When to Schedule an Heirloom Portrait of Your Child

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

How old should my child be to schedule an heirloom portrait session?

Heirlooms can be captured any time from when your child can sit up on his/her own without assistance (about 9 months) to 18 years of age. The most magical time to schedule the first heirloom is between 9 months & 4 when they are still in the innocence of childhood and still have baby teeth. If you have 3 heirloom sessions for your child as they grow, a beautiful idea is to display them in a collage frame - between ages 9 months & 3, between 4-8, and then as a tween or teen. You can also order three portraits from each session and display them in their own collage frame.

What time of year should I schedule my child's heirloom portrait session?

Obviously any time of year would be fine. Some like to have the session close to their child's birthday. When there are siblings, you might schedule them a few months before Christmas, especially if you would like to have them ready in time for gifts. Another option would be in January at the start of the year when all of the holiday craziness is over.

How to schedule an heirloom portrait session.

An heirloom portrait can be included in any child portrait session. I also offer The Heirloom Vignette Portrait Event, which is a day of quick and easy back to back mini sessions for heirloom portraits.
