When you've booked a session, made the investment, and purchased the outfit(s), you might worry if your child will "behave" so you are able to get the photos you're hoping for.
I totally get that.
Some kids will enter the studio bursting with energy and personality, some will be shy and reserved, and some will be somewhere in between the two. And it's all OK!
Before I found my love for photography, I was a middle school teacher for 15 years, a camp counselor for 3 years, and a preschool teacher for three years. I'm a mom of 2, and a grandmother. Kids are not new to me.
Kids aren't statues or puppets. They're kids. And they will act like kids. It's expected, and I want them to have fun and feel comfortable. When they arrive, I take time to let them get acquainted with their surroundings and with me. We might talk and play a while before we even start taking pictures. When we're ready for pictures, we will play music, sing, make silly faces, and even dance.
I'll be honest. We'll also use some bribery. Kids love bribery, and I'm not afraid to use it. A treasure box and candy never hurt.
As a mom, I know we want that perfect picture. As a photographer, I know it will happen if we just relax, take our time, and let kids have room to be kids.
So don't stress about how your child will behave. Being in the studio isn't about perfection, it's about capturing children as they are. There's beauty in that.
