When to Do Newborn Photos

If you're expecting, I am so excited for you! I know you have so many things to think about and plan for. So, if you're planning your newborn photo shoot ahead of time, be proud, mama. And be glad, because once baby arrives the chances of you scheduling and planning for a newborn session, as well being able to book the photographer you want, are pretty slim. Planning ahead and getting it on the books will ensure you don't miss out on capturing this special time that you can't get back.

So when do you schedule a newborn photo shoot when you don't know exactly when your little one will arrive?

Go ahead and book a session for your newborn photos on your due date.

This will allow your photographer to pencil you in and know when to not go out of town! Once your newborn arrives, you can let your photographer know and finalize the actual photo shoot date.

If you have a scheduled induction or cesarean date, you should be able to go ahead and nail down the session date.

Schedule the session for your newborn photos within 2 weeks of his birth.

During this time, your newborn will be the tiniest he will ever be. Also the sleepiest. If you're hoping to capture images of your newborn asleep, this would be the best time to try. But he doesn't have to be snoozing. I love images of their eyes wide open. They are magical. Eyes open or closed, this is also the time they are easiest to photograph. They mainly eat, sleep, and .... you know. As long as they're fed and changed, they're usually pretty much good to go.

All this to say, if you miss the 2 week window, don't stress over it! You have enough to stress about. Any time you capture your baby is a beautiful time. Just make sure you do.

Ready to get your session on my calendar? I'd be so honored!
