Most Commonly Forgotten Items to Bring to a Photoshoot

Little girl with red hair in a white and ivory heirloom dress standing with her finger to her mouth with a funny expression.

You wouldn't think that showing up to smile for a camera would be all that complicated. But there are definitely several details involved and things you need to bring to a photoshoot. It's easy to forget some of the important ones, especially when you have more than one person to prepare for. Your session will go much more smoothly if you remember these commonly forgotten items.

1 - Bloomers

This is for sessions with younger girls. You find the perfect dress and her hair is done just right, but then a handful of the photos can't be used because she's sitting in a way you can see up that perfect dress. Now, usually I will catch this and position her accordingly, but younger kids can move a lot. So, make sure your little cutie has some cute bloomers on - even if she wears diapers.

2 - Touchup makeup

Even if you're just driving to my studio and not braving the outdoor elements for your session, you might still need a quick touchup before we begin shooting. A little extra blush or lip color or a touch of powder can make a big difference in your confidence and the final result of your images.

3 - Hair supplies

Someone's hair might need smoothing, brushing, pinning back, or worse case scenario, a whole redo before or during a session. I will always have bobby pins and hairspray, but you might have your own products or hair pins you would rather use.

4 - Wipes

In the rush to get here, it's almost inevitable that someone will have marker, food, dirt, or crusties on their person when you arrive. It's amazing what can end up on a child as soon as you turn your head around. Or maybe you want to fix something about your makeup. I will almost always have these one hand, but bring your own to be on the safe side.
